Trust and Tolerance to advance development goals

The second day of the Doha Forum focused on trust and tolerance to advance development goals.

DOHA, December 12, 2011 – Gordon Brown, Former UK Prime Minister, Rabbi Arthur Schneier, UNAOC Ambassador, and Saad Eddin Taib, Senior Adviser to the Organization of the Islamic Conference took part in a discussion focused on the role of culture in advancing peace, security, and human development.

Several of the breakout sessions gathered youth leaders, NGO’s, members of international organizations (Council of Europe, European Commission, and the World Bank among others), and governments representatives around various issues. Among the numerous topics addressed was the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, religious minorities in a post 9/11 world, the Arab Awakenings, the impact of digital freedom, and the role of the social media and citizen journalism.
Speakers and participants agreed on the fact that peace-building requires restoring social relations and trust. They discussed the solutions and the necessary actions to be led to repair dignity and remove injustices in order to support reconciliation in a context of inclusive development and social integration.
